Welcome to the latest edition of our Place-Based Peer Learning Newsletter! 

In this edition, we’ll be sharing with you the latest events, learning and news from the programme. While focusing on the Culture and Place Data Explorer, programming for poverty awareness, and advocacy skills. 

UPCOMING EVENTS

Introduction to the Culture and Place Data Explorer
 
We recently launched the Culture and Place Data Explorer, an interactive tool that allows users to map investment in culture and creativity with over 200 other data indicators that tell us more about people and places across the country. 
  
Join James Evans, Data Governance Manager and Ria Jones, Senior Project Manager, Place to learn more about the data tools available from Arts Council England, a demo of the Culture and Place Data Explorer, and an opportunity to ask questions. 
 
The session will take place on Tuesday 12 November.

Programming for Poverty Awareness
 
Join our two-part session on programming for poverty awareness on Wednesday 27 November. 
  
The first part of the session will focus on the cost of the school day and will be delivered by Child Poverty Action Group. The second half of the session will explore the initial steps of poverty proofing your arts and cultural provision with Children North East

5-minute Project Shares: Programming for Poverty Awareness 
 
Are you interested in hearing examples of programming for poverty awareness? Would you like to share a project or initiative that you have worked on lately? 
 
We’ve had requests for opportunities to hear about other place-based projects. So, we invite you to give a 5-minute online presentation on a recent project to a small group!   
 
The event will take place on Wednesday 11 December and the session will follow the same format as our ‘5-Minute Project Shares’ event earlier in the year.

Connect and Reflect

Join our next ‘Connect and Reflect: Visualising Data to Tell the Story of Your Place’ session on Wednesday 6 November. 
 
Each session focuses on a particular theme, we provide suggested questions to start the discussion and then it's over to you to talk about the topic with your peers.  
 
The sessions provide the perfect time to digitally connect with your place-based peers, consider a range of themes and come away with new approaches to your work. 
 
Our ‘Connect and Reflect’ sessions take place on the first Wednesday of each month and the upcoming sessions are: 
 
•    Wednesday 6 November: Visualising Data to Tell the Story of Your Place 
•    Wednesday 4 December: Poverty Awareness in Your Programmes

Advocacy Skills

Would you like to develop your advocacy skills? Are you keen to develop an advocacy strategy but need some helpful tips on where to start?Join our upcoming sessions with Helen Collinson, International NGO Training & Research Centre (INTRAC), an advocacy practitioner with thirty years’ experience in this field.  

This second session will build on the first session, it is recommended that participants attend both sessions – but not essential.  

  • Thursday 30 January 2025: Introduction to Advocacy and Key Steps to Developing an Advocacy Strategy
  • Thursday 13 February 2025: Developing Advocacy Skills

STEERING GROUP

Getting together in Hereford
 
We had a brilliant couple of days in Hereford with the Place Based Peer Learning Steering Group, co-creating the next 12 months of the programme together. 
 
Thank you so much to Nic Millington and Rural Media for hosting. It was fascinating to hear more about their work in the community and have a tour round their new building.

A new way to access Hivebrite

Hivebrite is our digital community networking platform open to those working in a place-based way. We’re delighted to share that you can now download an app version of the platform on Apple. 
 
Just head to Apple’s App Store and search for ‘Place Based Peer Learning’ and download. 
 
We’re still working on the Android version and will share more details soon! 

PROJECT SHARING

Catch up with our Project Sharing sessions

In our ‘5-minute Project Shares’ event we heard from a variety of projects and over the coming newsletters, we will be highlighting one of the case studies shared with us at the event.  
 
Creative People and Places, Seed shared their experiences of bringing a pop-up jazz bar for the enjoyment of the local community in Bridgwater.
