Place-Based Peer Learning Newsletter: May 2024
Welcome to the latest edition of our Place-Based Peer Learning Newsletter!
In this edition, we’ll be sharing with you the latest events, learning and news from the programme, with a focus on community-led evaluation, working with children and young people, and project sharing.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Connect and Reflect
Join our next ‘Other ways of working – Your Learnings from Other Sectors’ session on Wednesday 5 June.
Each session focuses on a particular theme. We provide suggested questions to begin the conversation and then it's over to you to discuss the theme with your peers. The sessions provide the perfect time to digitally connect with your place-based colleagues, consider a range of topics and come away with new approaches to your work.
Our ‘Connect and Reflect’ sessions take place on the first Wednesday of each month and the upcoming sessions are:
- Wednesday 5 June: Other ways of working – Your Learnings from Other Sectors
- Wednesday 3 July: Your Work with Children and Young People on Research and Evaluation
Community-led Monitoring and Evaluation
Are you keen to develop community-led monitoring in your place? Would you like to involve community members to collect and analyse data? Join our upcoming ‘How to Build Your Community-led Monitoring and Evaluation Practice’ session on Wednesday 8 May.
The session will be delivered by community-led evaluation specialists Elene Cloete, PhD, and Nancy Bobadilla from Outreach International, a not-for-profit organisation that facilitates community-led development worldwide.
Research with Children and Young People
Are you interested in how to involve children and young people in your research? Would you like to co-design your activity with this audience? Join us for an introductory session on how children and young people can be involved in research, as co-designers rather than participants.
‘How to Involve Children and Young People Throughout the Research Process’ will take place on Wednesday 19 June and will be delivered by by Dr Jaimee Mallion, Dr Richard Nugent, and Ayesha Akkari from the National Children’s Bureau.
Steering Group
We are delighted to announce that Katie Aldous will be joining our Steering Group as our new Creative People and Places representative. Katie is the Operations Manager at Outside Arts in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Steering Group members participate in co-creation sessions, offer feedback on the programme, and help identify how the programme can help address the needs of the network.
In our last meeting, we discussed ideas for the new events later this year. Watch this space for more details!
Project Sharing
Our first ‘5-minute Project Shares’ event took place last month and it was brilliant to hear from a variety of projects across the country. Over the coming newsletters, we will be highlighting each of the case studies shared with us at this event.
Future Creators shared their takeaways from ‘Cities of Learning’, a social and digital systems- change programme designed to help learners grow their skills and confidence. They worked collaboratively with young people to create a digital badge scheme to recognise a range of skills and knowledge.
Interesting in finding out more? Our project share recordings are available to view on Hivebrite.
